eHost vs GoDaddy Web Hosting Comparison
(UPDATED August 2018: eHost is closed for business. Existing customers will be migrated to Sitelio.com or JustHost.com. Further details can be found on eHost.com.) It’s exciting and stressful to be looking for a web hosting company for your new online project. eHost and GoDaddy have many benefits including load-balanced servers and the easy-to-use cPanel control panel. What is the significant difference between these two hosting companies? We will provide a detailed eHost vs GoDaddy comparison so that you can make an informed decision about which company you should choose. We will use the following criteria: performance, prices, features, security, usability, and customer service. Read on to see who wins the GoDaddy vs eHost battle.
eHost vs GoDaddy – Performance
There is nothing more important than having a website that is always online. Downtime can mean lost customers and revenue, and so can having a website that’s too slow. GoDaddy’s overall uptime average is 99.9%, which is lower than the industry average. Their new business-level shared hosting service has an outstanding average of 100%. Their business-level hosting is 20 times faster than their usual page load speeds of 3.16 seconds.
eHost has a 100% average uptime and guarantees it. They are even faster than GoDaddy with 0.5-second page load speeds. Our winner in the performance category is eHost, with its 0.5-second page loading speed and its 100% uptime guarantee.
eHost vs GoDaddy – Pricing & Features
Both eHost and GoDaddy offer cheap, budget-friendly, shared hosting service. You can expect to pay less with eHost, even after the promotional period. The biggest difference is the number of plans the hosting companies offer.
eHost is a ‘one plan wonder.’ They have one, cheap plan for shared hosting and offer nothing else. GoDaddy, on the other hand, has a variety of shared hosting plans, including their business-level plan, with SSD storage and WordPress hosting. eHost offers unlimited resources, while GoDaddy offers unlimited resources on only some of their many plans.
|Hosting Company||Price Range/Month||Domains||Disk Space (min. to max.)||Bandwidth (min. to max.)|
|GoDaddy||$3.99-$49.99||1 to Unlimited||60GB to Unlimited||1 to Unlimited|
eHost wins in both pricing and features. It has lower priced plans and much more resources for its customers, while GoDaddy has more features only for some of its plans.
eHost vs GoDaddy – Security
As one would expect, eHost has limited security features. Their load-balanced servers are monitored 24/7 and they have customizable spam filters and virus checking. Other than that, there’s not much else they provide without paying extra.
GoDaddy also offers 24/7 security protection, but also provides DDoS protection and free backups and restorations. They include a sender ID feature with their email as well, so you can verify who the email is coming from. GoDaddy is much more robust in its security package, which makes it a winner.
eHost vs GoDaddy – Usability
There’s not much difference in usability between eHost and GoDaddy. Here are the features they both offer with their services:
- Drag-and-drop website builder
- Hundreds of templates
- 1-click install marketplace with over 100 applications
There are a couple of features that eHost provides their customers that GoDaddy does not. One feature is $200 in Ad credit to be used with Bing and Google AdWords. The other unique feature is the 1GB cloud storage from JustCloud that comes with their services.
Winner in Usability: eHost
eHost vs GoDaddy – Customer Service
Both companies offer 24/7 customer support phone and email. eHost also provides live chat support to their customers. Both claim to be incredibly fast. GoDaddy promises to answer calls within 6 minutes, while eHost claims to answer calls within 2 minutes.
GoDaddy has horrible customer service reviews online though. Customers complain that their issues were never fixed and that they were even blamed for the issue and that credit was denied. eHost has a lot of bad reviews in general online. The main complaint is about billing and being unable to get refunds.
In this category, we can only declare eHost a winner. While it manages to resolve its customers’ issues, it still has much to improve on its billing and refunding process. Nonetheless, it goes ahead.
eHost vs GoDaddy – Pros & Cons
Here’s what we like and don’t like about eHost’s services.
- Excellent uptime
- Super-fast Speed
- Unlimited disk space & bandwidth
- Scary amount of bad reviews
- Only one plan
Now let’s talk about the benefits and detriments of using GoDaddy.
- SSD storage option
- DDoS protection
- Great uptime for business-level
- Bad customer service reviews
- Slow page load speeds
eHost vs GoDaddy – Rating
|Hosting Company||Performance||Features||Prices||Security||Usability||Customer Support|
Overall, eHost looks like the better hosting company but the average score of 7.8 out of 10 for both hosts shows that it’s a toss-up. However, it’s that incredibly low customer service score that really hurts eHost. Because of all the bad reviews warning everyone to stay away, we can’t, in good conscience, recommend eHost for more than the most basic, static website. If you want any kind of reliability and security we recommend going with a trusted name like GoDaddy.
