Bluehost vs iPage Web Host Comparison

Bluehost vs ipage

Today I will be doing a head-to-head comparison of two of the most prominent web hosting services, Bluehost-vs-Ipage.

I will be comparing Bluehost and Ipage on several key criteria: performance, prices & features, security, usability, customer service, so that I will be able to rate each hosting service and give you a recommendation on which to choose.

Bluehost vs Ipage – Performace

Bluehost and Ipage are high performance hosting services. Each web host markets its services to a wide variety of customers from businesses to individuals.

In terms of performance, Bluehost offers a below average load speed of 1,426ms per load. It offers VPS Protection Technology to protect users against unnecessary downtime. It also uses cPanel, that contains SimpleScripts, a single click installation program, with over 70 applications, that includes free search engine submission, advertising credits with the major search engines, and numerous SEO tools, with educational videos.

Ipage also offers a below average load speed of 1,038ms per load. Ipage uses Install Central, which also contains applications for blogs, forums, ecommerce, etc. However, Ipage’s service does not include many of the SEO tools and extras that Bluehost offers. For this reason, I would say that Bluehost performs better than Ipage.

Ipage vs Bluehost – Prices & Features

Bluehost and Ipage offer similar features for nearly the same rate. The table below shows a comparison of the features that are offered in each hosting service’s primary hosting service. Bluehost offers 3 plans: basic, plus, and prime, while Ipage offers a variety of plans with pricing based on the length of your subscription.

For Bluehost, basic begins at $3.95, whereas plus and prime are currently starting at $5.95. After the first term of service, the plans then increase in cost: $7.99/month for basic, $10.99/month for plus, and $14.99/month for prime. Upgrading from basic to plus eliminates caps on all features and provides $200 in marketing offers and the SpamExperts service. Upgrading from plus to prime provides even more benefits with Domain Privacy and SiteBackup Pro.

For Ipage, the essential plan costs $3.25/month for the first term of service, and then increases to $12.95/month for 1 year or less of service, $11.95/month for 2 years of service, $10.95 for 3 years of service. The essential plan has no caps on its features and provides similar features to Bluehost. Although Ipage costs less, Bluehost offers more bang for your buck with its bevy of features.

Hosting Company Price Range/ month Domains Disk Space (min to max) Bandwidth (min to max)
Bluehost $3.95 – $14.99 1 to unlimited 50 GB to unmetered unmetered
Ipage $3.25 – $12.95 unlimited unlimited scalable

Bluehost vs iPage – Security

Both Bluehost and Ipage are secure web hosting services that offer a variety of features. Bluehost provides security for both email and for accessing a remote computer. Features include POP3/POP3 Secure E-mail support, IMAP/Secure IMAP E-mail support and Secure Shell Access through an SSL Secure Server. Ipage offers an enhanced security suite and a secure FTP to transfer files securely through your servers. While both services offer a fair amount of security, it appears Bluehost’s security is slightly better than Ipage’s.

iPage vs Bluehost – Usability

Bluehost and Ipage both offer user friendly interfaces for website building and management tools. In terms of ecommerce, each service offers the starter version of ShopSite, a service that allows you to build your own online store. In addition to ShopSite, Bluehost offers Concrete5, a user-friendly site builder, whereas Ipage offers both Weebly and WebSite Creator by CM4All. Both services are very user friendly, but I would give a slight edge to Ipage due to the options it provides in web page building.

Bluehost vs iPage – Customer Service

Bluehost and Ipage each offer a variety of options for customer support. Both providers guarantee reliable service with 99% uptime. Each service has a large database of support resources to find answers to a variety of questions you may have. They both also have an online ticketing system for issues, a 30-day money back guarantee and 24/7 phone and chat support. Both hosting services have first class customer support, and I cannot make a clear distinction as to which is better.

Verdict

Bluehost and iPage are both excellent web hosting services. Each offer a variety of features that are helpful in building and maintaining your website.

Bluehost offers SimpleScript, which provides a bevy of tools for SEO optimization. Bluehost also offers VPS Protection to prevent unnecessary downtime from occurring. Ipage offers two web building services and is a green company powered by 100% wind energy.

While Bluehost and iPage are competitive in many categories, the SEO options, and other features that Bluehost provides make it worth paying slightly more. In the Ipage and Bluehost debate, I would choose Bluehost, as it offers the most comprehensive package of performance, features, security, usability, and customer support.
